The questions we get asked most often, answered plainly. If yours is not here, call us — we would rather explain it than have you guess.
Pricing and Scheduling
Do you charge for a diagnostic visit?
During normal business hours it is a flat $259.99 service call that covers most diagnostics and a quick fix. Complex Level 2-3 troubleshooting is quoted up front, and after-hours emergency calls are $389.99. You will know the fee before we dispatch and approve any repair price before work begins.
Do you give quotes over the phone?
For straightforward installs we can give you a ballpark. For anything involving your existing wiring or panel, we need eyes on it — a phone quote on that kind of work is a guess, and guesses turn into change orders.
How fast can you get here?
Same-day and emergency slots are available for live hazards. Standard installs are typically scheduled within a few days depending on the season and permit timing.
Panels and Power
My breaker keeps tripping. Is that dangerous?
A breaker tripping is the breaker doing its job. What matters is why. Repeated trips on the same circuit point to an overload, a short, or a ground fault, and the last two need to be found, not reset. Keep resetting it and you are ignoring a warning, not fixing a problem.
How do I know if I need a panel upgrade?
Common signs: a fuse box instead of breakers, a 60- or 100-amp service in a house that now runs central air and an EV, no room left for new circuits, or a panel brand with a known safety history such as Federal Pacific or Zinsco. We can tell you in one visit.
Do I need a permit?
Panel and service upgrades, new circuits, and EV charger installs generally require a permit and inspection in New Jersey. We pull the permit and make the process easy. We encourage an inspection on any major work — it’s how you know the job is done right to code, and we’re never shy about that. Be cautious of any contractor who doesn’t want to pull a permit.
EV Chargers and Generators
Can my panel handle a Level 2 EV charger?
Sometimes yes, sometimes it needs a service upgrade first. It depends on your existing service size and what else is on it. We run a load calculation rather than eyeballing it.
Which EV chargers do you install?
We install hardwired and plug-in Level 2 chargers from the major manufacturers, including the unit that came with your vehicle. If you have not bought one yet, we will tell you what will actually work with your panel.
Standby generator or portable?
A standby unit starts automatically and runs the circuits you choose; a portable with an interlock or transfer switch is cheaper but you are outside starting it in the storm. We install both and will walk you through the tradeoff honestly.
