Cold radiators, a boiler that will not fire or a puddle in the basement: Spartan Home Pros repairs gas and oil boilers, hot water and steam, in homes across Central New Jersey. Ours is a licensed and insured electrician and HVAC service company run from a Bridgewater office, and you can call or text (908) 287-2187 to reach a real person 24/7. Expect a flat price before any work and our own background-checked technicians, never subcontractors.
Boiler repair is part of our HVAC services. Boilers are everywhere in older New Jersey towns, from cast iron units feeding radiators in prewar colonials to newer wall-hung models in renovated homes. They last a long time when they are cared for, and many no-heat calls end with a repair, not a replacement.
Signs Your Boiler Needs Repair
No Heat or Some Cold Rooms
The boiler will not fire, or some radiators and baseboards stay cold while others get hot.
Low Pressure
On a hot water boiler, a pressure gauge that keeps dropping usually means a leak somewhere or a failing part.
Banging and Gurgling
Knocking pipes, gurgling baseboards or a boiler that bangs as it heats often point to trapped air or water level problems.
Water Around the Boiler
Drips from the relief valve, a pump or the boiler itself should be checked before small leaks turn into bigger damage.
Pilot or Burner Will Not Stay Lit
The burner lights and goes out, or the pilot keeps failing. That is often a sensor, a control or a gas supply issue.
Runs but No Hot Water
If your boiler also makes your hot water, a cold shower can mean a control or valve problem, not just the tank.
Boiler Repairs We Handle
Burner and Ignition
Igniters, pilot assemblies, flame sensors and gas valves that keep the burner from lighting or staying lit.
Pumps and Zone Valves
Circulator pumps and zone valves that move hot water to each part of the house. A stuck one leaves a floor cold.
Pressure and Water Level
Fill valves, expansion tanks, relief valves and low-water cutoffs that keep a boiler safe and steady.
Controls and Wiring
Boiler controls, zone panels, relays and the wiring between them. This is where our electrical background pays off.

Thermostats
Thermostats and the wire behind them, including Honeywell Home, ecobee and Google Nest models set up for boiler heat.

Indirect Water Heaters
Tanks heated by the boiler, plus the controls and wiring that tie them in.
“Found company thru Angie. Spartan services were extremely responsive and timely. Efficient repair performed, no sales pitch. Paid exactly as quoted. Considering using them for additional work as a result.”
Why an Electrician Makes a Better Boiler Tech
A boiler burns gas or oil, but it cannot run without electricity. The controls, the circulator pumps, the zone valves and the thermostats all depend on wiring, both the thin thermostat wires and regular household circuits, and in older homes that wiring has often been added onto for decades. When a zone stops heating, the cause is frequently a burned relay, a loose wire at a zone valve or a failed transformer, not the boiler itself.
We read those circuits like an electrician because we are electricians. That means fewer parts swapped on a hunch and a clear explanation of what failed. And since boilers stop when the power does, ask us about a backup generator if winter outages leave you without heat.
Boilers in Older New Jersey Homes
Hot water and steam heat are common in the prewar and mid-century homes found throughout Union, Essex, Morris and Somerset counties. Many still run on cast iron radiators, and some still burn oil. These systems are durable, but they have quirks: radiators that need bleeding, steam systems that need the right water level, and old zone wiring that was never labeled.
Carbon monoxide is the safety concern with any fuel-burning boiler. Make sure you have working carbon monoxide alarms near bedrooms and on every level; we can install them while we are there. Utility rebates for high-efficiency boilers or for adding a heat pump come and go, so ask us, programs change.
Repair or Replace Your Boiler
Many boilers run 20 years or more, so we start with repair. If a boiler is leaking from the body, keeps failing, or costs more to run than it should, we will lay out your choices plainly, including whether a heat pump could carry part of the load. If you would rather switch to forced air, our furnace page explains that path.
Simple Boiler Care
Bleed the Radiators
If the top of a radiator stays cool, trapped air is the usual cause. Bleeding it at the start of the season helps heat flow.
Glance at the Gauge
Learn where your pressure gauge normally sits. A reading that keeps falling or creeping up is an early warning.
Steam Water Level
Steam boilers need the right water level in the sight glass. Too low and the boiler shuts down to protect itself.
Yearly Cleaning
An annual cleaning and safety check keeps the burner efficient and catches leaks and worn controls before winter.
What Happens on a Boiler Repair Visit
1. Tell Us the Symptoms
No heat, one cold zone, noise or a leak. A few quick questions help us bring the right parts.
2. Safety First
We check for gas, venting and carbon monoxide concerns before anything else, then look at pressure and water level.
3. Find the Cause
We test the burner, pumps, valves, controls and wiring, and show you what failed.
4. Flat Price, Then Fix
You approve a flat price before we start. We make the repair and run the system until every zone heats.

Boiler Repair Questions, Answered
Why is my boiler on but the radiators are cold?
Common causes are air trapped in the pipes, a failed circulator pump, a stuck zone valve or low water pressure. We test each one and fix the part that actually failed.
What pressure should my boiler be at?
Most residential hot water boilers run around 12 to 15 PSI when cold and a bit higher when hot. If the pressure keeps dropping or climbs near the relief valve setting, call us.
Why is my boiler leaking water?
Leaks often come from the pressure relief valve, a pump seal, a fitting or the expansion tank. A leak from the boiler body itself is more serious. Shut it down if water is pooling and call us.
Do you repair steam boilers?
Yes. We work on both hot water and steam boilers found in older New Jersey homes, along with the controls, thermostats and wiring that run them.
Can a boiler problem be electrical?
Yes, very often. Zone controls, relays, pumps, valves and thermostats all depend on wiring. As electricians, we check that side carefully instead of guessing at parts.
How much does boiler repair cost?
It depends on what failed. We find the cause first and give you a flat price before any work starts, so there are no surprises.
