Spartan Home Pros, a locally owned and family operated electrician and HVAC service company, handles EV charger installation in East Brunswick, NJ, from wiring the circuit to passing the township inspection; call our Hazlet office at (732) 585-6560. Our own crew does the work, not a subcontractor, you get the price up front with no hourly meter, and real people answer 24/7. Whether you live in a postwar split-level off Route 18 or a newer colonial near Crystal Springs, we check the panel first, because that is where most East Brunswick charger jobs are decided.

East Brunswick EV Ownership Is Growing Fast
State registration figures mapped by the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority show about 2,460 electric cars in East Brunswick as of June 2025, up from roughly 1,530 at the end of 2023. That jump of about 60 percent in eighteen months is the fastest of the six towns we profile for charger work. For commuters heading to the Turnpike at Exit 9 or up Route 18, a charger in the garage turns a dead battery into a non-issue.

Two Kinds of Houses, Two Kinds of Charger Jobs
East Brunswick grew in two big waves. Census data shows about 44 percent of homes were built before 1970, many in the building rush that followed the Turnpike’s arrival in the early 1950s, and roughly another 31 percent went up between 1980 and 1999. The typical home dates to about 1974.
The older ranches and split-levels often still have their first or second panel, sometimes 100-amp service, and many have a one-car garage or none at all. Here the work usually starts with a careful look at the panel and a plan for getting a heavier wire to where the car sits.
The newer colonials tend to have 150- or 200-amp service and a two-car garage, but plenty of them are already full after a finished basement and central air. For those homes, a smart charger that can share power, or a load-management device, can often avoid a full upgrade.
Old Panel Brands We Replace First
Two panel brands from that building boom, Federal Pacific and Zinsco, still turn up in East Brunswick basements, and both are known for breakers that can fail to trip during an overload. A charger can pull 40 amps for hours on end, so we will not hang one on either brand. We price the replacement panel and the charger together, so the decision is simple. Our panel upgrade page walks through what a replacement involves. If your panel needs to go first, start with our East Brunswick panel upgrades.
We also check for aluminum wiring, which turns up in some homes from the mid-1960s and early 1970s. A charger gets its own new copper circuit straight from the panel, so it does not ride on old wiring.
PSE&G or JCP&L: Check Your Bill
East Brunswick is one of the few towns we serve that is split between two utilities, and the rules for your charger depend on which one sends your bill. If PSE&G sends your bill, you can apply for a credit worth as much as $1,500 for each qualifying charger, put toward the installation, as long as the charger is an ENERGY STAR certified smart model on Wi-Fi or cellular and the job passes a town inspection. JCP&L shut its home charger incentive in June 2025. Either way, the federal tax credit for home chargers no longer applies to units put in service after June 30, 2026.
Townhouses and HOA Communities

East Brunswick has a good number of townhouse and condo communities. Charging there is often possible, but the association usually needs to sign off on anything mounted outside and on wiring that passes through shared walls or a common meter room. Ask your HOA for its rules in writing before you buy a charger, then send them to us. We will plan the install to fit, and we can supply the details a board usually asks for, such as where the charger will sit and how the wire will run.
Chargers We Put In
Our team is Tesla certified and is also certified to install ChargePoint and Emporia units. We hang every other major brand as well. If you are not sure which to buy, tell us your car and how far you drive each day, and we will point you to a model that fits your panel and, for PSE&G customers, one that qualifies for the credit.
East Brunswick Charger Pricing
Expect $1,000 to $2,600 for most Level 2 installs here. A garage charger beside the panel is at the lower end; a run from a basement panel on one side of a split-level to a driveway on the other is higher. If the panel must be replaced, that is quoted as its own line, so nothing is buried.

East Brunswick EV Charger Questions
What does it cost to install a home EV charger in East Brunswick?
Our Level 2 installs in East Brunswick typically run $1,000 to $2,600, with the distance from the panel to the parking spot as the biggest factor. Older houses that need panel work first, especially those with a Federal Pacific or Zinsco panel, have that priced separately, usually $2,000 to $7,000.
Which utility serves my East Brunswick home, and does it matter?
East Brunswick is split between PSE&G and JCP&L, so check the name on your electric bill. On the PSE&G side, a qualifying smart charger can earn a bill credit of up to $1,500 to help cover the wiring. JCP&L closed its home charger incentive in June 2025.
I have a Federal Pacific panel. Can you just add a charger?
We do not recommend it. Breakers in those two brands are known to sometimes stay on during an overload, and a charger is a big load that runs for hours at a time. We will price a replacement panel and the charger together so you can see the full picture.
Can I put a charger in my East Brunswick townhouse?
Many townhouse owners can, but the homeowners association usually has to approve exterior work and any wiring through shared space. Get the rules in writing first. If your panel is in a shared meter room, tell us when you call so we can plan the route.
Who issues the permit for a charger in East Brunswick?
The East Brunswick construction office issues the electrical permit and sends the inspector. We file the application, schedule the inspection and handle the sign-off.
Does a Tesla Wall Connector work with my Ford or Hyundai?
Yes, with an adapter, and many newer cars now come with the Tesla-style plug built in. We are Tesla certified installers and also install ChargePoint, Emporia and the other major brands.
