Bridgewater Drivers Are Plugging In
State vehicle records, as compiled by the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority, show Bridgewater with about 1,900 electric cars on the road by June 2025, up from roughly 1,250 at the close of 2023. Somerset County as a whole has one of the higher EV shares in the region. For people who spend their weekdays on I-287 and I-78, a full battery every morning from a charger in the garage takes the guesswork out of the commute.

From Finderne Capes to Martinsville Colonials
Bridgewater was mostly farmland until the 1960s, and its homes show that history. Census data puts the typical house at around 1981, with roughly 39 percent built before 1970 and another 43 percent between 1980 and 1999. That gives us two common kinds of charger jobs.
In the township’s older sections, including parts of Finderne, many houses are smaller, often with a one-car garage or just a driveway, and panels that have been stretched by additions and central air. There we often plan an outdoor charger by the driveway and take a hard look at panel space first.
In the larger subdivisions built in the 1980s and 1990s, especially toward Martinsville, homes usually have two-car attached garages and 150- or 200-amp service. The wire run is short, but a finished basement, a pool and a second fridge may have used up the room. A smart charger set to the right level, or a load-management device, often solves it without new service. When it does not, our panel upgrade page explains the next step. Right here in town, our Bridgewater panel upgrade page walks through it step by step.
Two Utilities in One Township
Part of Bridgewater buys its power from PSE&G and part from JCP&L, and the incentive picture depends on which company appears on your monthly statement. In PSE&G areas, a qualifying ENERGY STAR smart charger can earn a credit on your bill of up to $1,500 toward the wiring work, once the install has a permit and passes the township inspection. In JCP&L areas, the home charger make-ready incentive stopped taking applications in June 2025. The federal home charger tax credit also no longer covers units installed after June 30, 2026.
Low Spots Near the Raritan

With the Raritan River on the township’s southern border and the North Branch on its western side, some low-lying Bridgewater homes deal with damp basements, and a few have taken on water in big storms. If that is your house, we keep the charger circuit, any added panel and the charger itself well above the level water has reached, and we will tell you if the main panel itself should be raised.
Townhouses and Shared Driveways
Bridgewater has a number of townhouse and condo communities. If yours has an association, it will usually want to approve anything mounted outside and any wiring through shared space. Ask the board for its requirements up front, and we will design the job around them and supply the drawings or details it wants to see.
Charger Brands
We hold certifications from Tesla, ChargePoint and Emporia, and we install any other major brand you prefer. Let us know your car and your daily miles, and we will recommend a charger that suits both your driving and your panel.
What Bridgewater Installs Cost
Most Level 2 installs in Bridgewater fall between $1,000 and $2,600. A two-car garage with the panel on the shared wall sits near the bottom. An outdoor charger at the end of a long driveway, or a run from a basement panel on the far side of a ranch, costs more. You get the price in writing before we begin.

Bridgewater EV Charger Questions
What does a Level 2 charger install cost in Bridgewater?
Expect $1,000 to $2,600 for most Bridgewater installs. The distance between the panel and your parking spot drives the price more than anything else. If your panel is out of room and needs an upgrade, we quote that as a separate line, usually $2,000 to $7,000.
Is Bridgewater on PSE&G or JCP&L?
Both. Some parts of the township are served by PSE&G and others by JCP&L, so look at the name on your bill. PSE&G customers may qualify for a bill credit of up to $1,500 per qualifying smart charger. JCP&L stopped taking applications for its home charger incentive in June 2025.
Where is the permit filed for a Bridgewater charger?
Electrical permits go through Bridgewater Code Enforcement at 100 Commons Way. We file the application, book the inspection and meet the inspector, so you do not have to deal with the paperwork.
How soon can you install a charger in Bridgewater?
Our office is on Route 22 in Bridgewater, so scheduling is easiest here. Most installs are done in a single day once the township approves the permit.
My basement has flooded before. Where should the charger wiring go?
If water has reached your basement in the past, we keep the new circuit, any added panel and the charger itself above the level the water reached, and we can talk about moving the main panel up if it sits low.
Do you install Tesla, ChargePoint and Emporia chargers?
Yes. We are certified installers for all three and install other major brands as well. A Tesla Wall Connector can also charge non-Tesla cars using an adapter.
