If you need EV charger installation in Westfield, NJ, Spartan Home Pros, a locally owned and family operated electrician and HVAC service company, sends its own licensed and insured crew from our Chatham office; call or text (908) 493-9223. We quote one flat price before we start, take care of the town permit and inspection, and a real person answers any time of day. Around Mindowaskin Park and the downtown train station, many charger jobs start with one question: how do we get power to a garage that sits at the back of the lot?

Westfield Is Going Electric
About 1,640 electric cars were registered in Westfield as of June 2025, according to state registration data published by the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority. Eighteen months earlier, in December 2023, the figure was around 1,030, so the town added roughly 600 EVs in a year and a half. With a train station downtown and most errands close by, many Westfield drivers cover modest daily miles, which makes slow, steady overnight charging at home an easy fit.
Older Homes and Garages at the Back of the Lot

Westfield is one of the older towns we work in. Census data puts the typical home at about 1954, and roughly three of every four were built before 1970. Plenty are colonials from the 1920s and 1930s on close-set lots, and many have a detached garage set behind the house at the end of the driveway.
That garage is the real job. Getting power to it usually means a heavier wire from the house panel, run underground across the yard or along the driveway, and sized for the distance so the charger still gets full power at the far end. Many owners also want lights and an outlet in the garage, so we often add a small panel out there that can carry the charger and everything else.
If you would rather charge in the driveway, we can mount an outdoor-rated charger on the side of the house closest to where you park. On tight lots we plan the route around fences, patios and the neighbor’s side yard before digging anything.
Panels in Century-Old Houses

A house wired before central air existed has usually had its service upgraded at least once, but not always enough. Kitchens, third-floor rooms and finished basements have all been added over the decades. A Level 2 charger pulls a steady load for hours, so we open the panel and add up the house before quoting a thing.
If old knob-and-tube or two-prong wiring is still in the walls, it does not stop a charger, because the charger gets its own new circuit straight from the panel. If the panel or service is too small, we explain the options and prices. Our panel upgrade page covers that job in detail. Using the PSE&G Credit in Westfield
Westfield gets its power from PSE&G, which offers residential customers an on-bill credit of up to $1,500 for each qualifying charger, applied to the installation work on the customer side. To count, the charger has to be a Wi-Fi or cellular smart unit on the ENERGY STAR list, installed under a Westfield permit that passes inspection. PSE&G’s program page also notes that owners of detached buildings can ask about a second residential service, something worth discussing if your garage is far from the house.
Keep in mind that PSE&G’s off-peak charging credit closed to new sign-ups in January 2026, and the federal tax credit for home chargers ended for chargers placed in service after June 30, 2026.
Brands and Certifications
Spartan Home Pros is a certified installer for Tesla, ChargePoint and Emporia. Other major brands are welcome. If you are applying for the PSE&G credit, we check that your charger is on the approved list before it is ordered, so the paperwork goes through cleanly.
Westfield Charger Costs
Westfield installs usually fall between $1,000 and $2,600. A charger in an attached garage beside the panel is the low end. A detached garage well behind the house, with a trench across the yard and a small garage panel, is the high end. Every price is written down before work begins.

Westfield EV Charger Questions
How much does a home EV charger install cost in Westfield?
Most of our Westfield installs run $1,000 to $2,600. An attached garage near the panel is the simple case. A detached garage at the back of the lot needs a longer, heavier wire and often a trench, which puts the job toward the top of the range. If the panel itself has to be replaced, that is quoted separately, usually $2,000 to $7,000.
Can you install a charger in a detached garage behind my Westfield house?
Yes, it is one of the most common Westfield jobs we see. We run a heavier wire from the house panel to the garage, usually underground, and often add a small panel in the garage so it can also power lights and outlets. We size the wire for the distance so the charger still gets full power.
Is there a PSE&G rebate for EV chargers in Westfield?
Westfield is served by PSE&G. Its residential program offers an on-bill credit of up to $1,500 per qualifying smart charger toward the installation work, provided the job has a town permit and passes inspection. PSE&G also lets owners of detached buildings ask about a separate service, which can help in some garage setups.
Where do I get a permit for an EV charger in Westfield?
Electrical permits are filed with the town at the Westfield Municipal Building, 425 East Broad Street, and a town inspector checks the work. We file the paperwork and meet the inspector.
My house still has some old wiring. Does that stop a charger?
No. A charger gets its own new circuit straight from the panel, so old wiring elsewhere in the house does not carry it. What matters is whether the panel and service have room, and we check that first.
Which chargers do you install?
We are certified to install Tesla Wall Connectors, ChargePoint and Emporia chargers, and we wire every other major brand too.
