A Level 2 charger is a 240-volt appliance on a dedicated circuit. The charger itself is the simple part — whether your panel can carry it, and how far the cable has to run, is what actually decides the job.

What Decides the Price of an EV Charger Install
Typical residential installations run $1,000 to $2,600. Long runs, panel work or a service upgrade push it higher, and we will tell you which of those applies before you commit to anything.
DISTANCE FROM PANEL TO CAR
This is the biggest variable. A charger on the garage wall directly behind the panel is a fraction of the cost of a run across the house and out to a detached garage.
SPARE CAPACITY IN THE PANEL
If the panel has room, this is straightforward. If it does not, you are looking at a sub-panel, a load-management device or a full service upgrade first.
Amps YOU ACTUALLY NEED
A 40-amp charger adds roughly 25 to 35 miles of range per hour. A 48-amp unit needs a heavier circuit for a gain most drivers never notice overnight.
HARDWIRED OR PLUG-IN
A NEMA 14-50 outlet is cheaper up front. Hardwiring is required above 48 amps and is the better outdoor answer.
PERMIT AND INSPECTION
EV circuits require a permit and inspection in every New Jersey township. We file it and handle the permit as part of the job.

We are a certified installer for Tesla, ChargePoint and Emporia, and we install every other major brand as well. We do not sell hardware at a markup — buy the unit you want and we will wire it correctly. If you have not chosen yet, we will tell you what we would put in our own garage.
- Tesla — Certified installer. Wall Connector installations, including for non-Tesla vehicles using an adapter.
- ChargePoint — Certified installer. Home Flex units, hardwired or plug-in, with the app-based scheduling most owners want.
- Emporia — Certified installer. Level 2 chargers and whole-home energy monitoring where you want to see the load rather than guess at it.
- Leviton — Evr-Green units and the heavy-duty outlets a plug-in charger sits on.
We are not a single-brand shop. If you have a preference we will work with it; if you do not, we will tell you what we would put in our own house and why.
How an EV Charger Installation Runs
LOAD CALCULATION
We open the panel, run the calculation and confirm the house can carry the charger before anyone quotes a number or drills a hole.
ROUTE AND MOUNT PLANNING
We plan the run and the mounting height so the cable reaches where you actually park, not where the panel happens to be.
INSTALLATION
Dedicated circuit, correct wire gauge for the distance, proper breaker, and the unit mounted and commissioned.
INSPECTION AND FIRST CHARGE
Township inspection scheduled, and we stay long enough to confirm the car actually charges at the rate it should.

How much does it cost to install an EV charger in New Jersey?

Can my panel handle an EV charger?
Most can, but it is a calculation, not a guess. A Level 2 charger is one of the largest continuous loads in a house. If your panel is full or the service is only 100 amps, you may need a sub-panel, a load-management device or a service upgrade first.
How fast will it charge?
Roughly: a 32-amp charger adds 20 to 30 miles of range per hour, 40 amps adds 25 to 35, and 48 amps adds 30 to 40. A standard 120-volt outlet adds only 3 to 5 miles per hour, which is why Level 2 exists.
Do I need a permit for an EV charger?
Yes. A new 240-volt dedicated circuit requires a permit and inspection through your township. We file the application and keep the process seamless as part of the installation.
Should I hardwire it or use a plug?
A NEMA 14-50 receptacle is cheaper and lets you take the unit with you. Hardwiring is required above 48 amps, is more reliable outdoors, and removes the receptacle as a failure point. Either is code-compliant when done correctly.
Do you install chargers for non-Tesla cars?
Yes. We install every major brand, and Tesla Wall Connectors work with other vehicles using an adapter. The wiring is the same job regardless of badge.
