Spartan Home Pros repairs gas furnaces that quit on cold nights and installs new ones when an old furnace has reached the end of the road, for homeowners across Central New Jersey. We are a licensed and insured electrician and HVAC service company working from our Bridgewater office. Call or text (908) 287-2187; real people answer 24/7, prices are flat and upfront, and our own background-checked crews do the work.
Furnace repair and installation is part of our full line of HVAC services. Most of the furnaces we see in Somerset, Union, Middlesex and Monmouth County homes burn natural gas and sit in a basement, an attic or a closet off the hallway. Wherever yours is, we come to it, find out why it is acting up, and tell you straight whether it needs a part or a replacement.
Signs Your Furnace Needs Attention
No Heat or Cold Air
The blower runs but the air from the vents is cool, or nothing happens at all when the thermostat calls for heat.
Short Cycling
The furnace lights, runs a minute or two, shuts off and starts over. That wears parts out fast and leaves rooms uneven.
Strange Noises
Banging when it lights, squealing from the blower or a loud hum usually means a part is failing and will get worse.
Rising Gas Bills
A bill that climbs year after year with no change in habits often points to a furnace losing efficiency with age.
Yellow Flame or Soot
The burner flame should be mostly blue. A lazy yellow flame or soot near the furnace needs a look right away.
Age Past 15 to 20 Years
Many gas furnaces last about 15 to 20 years. Past that, each repair is a bigger bet on a tired machine.
Furnace Repair and Installation Work We Do

No-Heat Repair
We test the igniter, flame sensor, safety switches, control board and blower motor, then fix what failed. You get a flat price before we start.

Furnace Replacement
When a repair no longer makes sense, we size a new furnace to your home and your ductwork, not just to the label on the old one.

Attic and Closet Furnaces
Tight attic and closet installs take more planning. We handle the venting, drain line and access so the new unit is easy to service later.

Thermostat Hookup
Every new furnace gets a thermostat set up to match it, including Wi-Fi models that need an extra wire run to work right.
“Spartan team did an amazing job. They were able to accommodate me very quickly, were super friendly and knowledgeable. They really took the care to do the job well, clean and explain it all along the way. No surprises, glad to have found them and would highly recommend!”
Our Electrical Background Is Your Advantage
A gas furnace still runs on electricity. The igniter, the control board, the blower and the safety switches all need steady power, and a surprising number of no-heat calls trace back to wiring, a tripped switch at the furnace or a breaker that is failing. Because we started as electricians, we test that side first instead of guessing at parts.
On a new install, our own licensed electricians handle the furnace circuit and the service switch, so nothing gets handed to another company on install day. If you lose heat every time the power goes out, we can also talk about a backup generator sized to keep the furnace running.
Furnaces in New Jersey Homes
Gas heat is the norm across much of Central New Jersey, and plenty of split-levels and colonials from the 1950s through the 1980s still have a second or third furnace in the basement. Older houses also tend to have small return ducts or a single return, which makes a new furnace work harder than it should. We check that before recommending a size.
Safety matters most with gas heat. Every home with a furnace should have working carbon monoxide alarms on each level, and we can install or update them on the same visit. A furnace replacement needs a permit and a township inspection in New Jersey; we file it and meet the inspector.
Your gas or electric utility may offer rebates on high-efficiency furnaces or on a heat pump that works alongside your furnace. Those programs change often, so ask us and we will check what applies to your home before you decide.
Equipment We Install
We install furnaces with good parts support around New Jersey, so a repair in year ten does not mean waiting weeks for a part.
- Coleman — Gas furnaces in single-stage, two-stage and variable-speed models, a common choice for basement and attic installs.
- Goodman — Dependable gas furnaces with parts that are easy to find.
- Bosch — Higher-efficiency equipment, including heat pumps that pair with a gas furnace for dual-fuel heat.
- Honeywell Home, ecobee and Google Nest — Thermostats set up to match your new furnace. See our smart thermostat installation page.
Simple Furnace Care Between Visits
Change the Filter
A clogged filter is behind a lot of winter shutdowns. Check it monthly during heating season and replace it when it looks gray.
Keep the Area Clear
Boxes, laundry and paint cans stacked around a furnace block the air it needs to burn safely. Give it a few feet of space.
Open the Vents
Closing vents in unused rooms does not save much and can make the furnace overheat and shut itself off.
Book a Fall Check
A yearly cleaning and safety check before the first cold snap catches worn parts while they are still cheap to replace.
What Happens on a Furnace Visit
1. Listen and Look
We ask what the furnace is doing and when it started, then check the thermostat, the power to the unit and the error code on the board.
2. Test, Not Guess
We test the parts that commonly fail, check the flame and the venting, and look for any safety concern before anything else.
3. Flat Price First
You get a flat price for the repair, or options for a replacement, before work starts. No hourly meter.
4. Fix and Check
We make the repair or install, run the furnace through full cycles, and walk you through what we did.

Furnace Questions, Answered
Why is my furnace blowing cold air?
The most common reasons are a dirty flame sensor, a failed igniter, a clogged filter that tripped a safety switch, or a thermostat set to fan instead of auto. We test each one so you only pay for the part that actually failed.
Should I repair or replace my furnace?
If the furnace is under about 15 years old and the repair is modest, repair usually makes sense. If it is older, needs a major part or has a safety problem, we will show you both options with flat prices so you can decide.
How long does a furnace installation take?
Most basement furnace replacements are done in one day. Attic or closet installs, or jobs that need new venting or ductwork changes, can take a little longer. We tell you the plan before we start.
Do I need a permit to replace a furnace in New Jersey?
Yes. Replacing a furnace needs a permit and a township inspection. We file the permit and meet the inspector as part of the job.
Do you work on furnaces you did not install?
Yes. Most of the furnaces we repair were put in by someone else, and we work on all the common brands found in New Jersey homes.
Is financing available for a new furnace?
Yes. Financing is available through Synchrony Bank. Ask when we give you your options and we will explain how it works.
