Central New Jersey loses power to storms and tree cover often enough that standby power stops being a luxury on a lot of streets. The electrical side — the transfer equipment — is what makes a generator safe and legal rather than a hazard to line crews.
Work is performed under NJ Electrical License #34EB01810700, out of our Hazlet and Bridgewater offices. We pull the permits, keep the process seamless, and make sure the job gets done right.
Standby Power Work We Handle
Whole-Home Standby Generators

A permanently mounted unit on a pad, wired to an automatic transfer switch, that starts itself when the power drops and shuts down when it returns.
Automatic Transfer Switches

The device that isolates your house from the grid before the generator picks up load. This is the part that keeps a lineman safe and it is not optional.
Generator Inlets and Interlock Kits

The affordable answer for a portable generator: an exterior inlet, a properly rated cable and a mechanical interlock at the panel so both sources can never be live at once.
Sub-Panels for Essential Circuits

Where you want the well pump, sump, furnace, refrigerator and a few lights backed up rather than the entire house.
What Drives the Cost of a Generator Installation
Standby generator pricing depends far more on the electrical and gas work around the unit than on the generator itself. We quote the installation after seeing the panel, the gas supply and the pad location.
AUTOMATIC OR MANUAL
A whole-home automatic system with a transfer switch is a different order of job from an inlet-and-interlock setup for a portable unit. Both are legitimate; they are not the same price.
DISTANCE AND GAS SUPPLY
Where the pad sits relative to the panel and the gas meter drives the conduit and pipe runs. A unit tucked beside the meter costs less to install than one placed for looks.
WHOLE HOUSE OR ESSENTIAL CIRCUITS
Backing up the entire panel needs a larger unit than backing up a sub-panel of essentials. We size to what you actually need running.
PERMITS AND INSPECTIONS
Generator installations usually need both electrical and plumbing or gas permits, and sometimes a zoning check on placement. We handle the electrical filing and coordinate the rest.
THE INTERLOCK IS NOT OPTIONAL
Backfeeding a panel through a dryer outlet kills line workers. Every installation we do has proper transfer equipment, without exception.
Generators and Transfer Equipment We Install
We are an authorized Generac installer. We are not a dealer, which means you are free to buy the unit wherever you get the best price — we handle the installation, the transfer equipment and the permits. The brand on the generator matters far less than the transfer switch and the sizing behind it.
- Generac — Authorized Generac installer. Air-cooled home standby units and their automatic transfer switches, the most common standby system in this part of New Jersey.
- Square D — Transfer switches, interlock kits and load centres on the electrical side of the installation.
- Eaton — Transfer equipment and panel-rated interlock kits for portable generator setups.
- Siemens — Load centres and interlock hardware where the existing panel is Siemens.
We are not a single-brand shop. If you have a preference we will work with it; if you do not, we will tell you what we would put in our own house and why.
How a Generator Installation Runs
SITE AND LOAD REVIEW

We look at the panel, the gas supply, the pad location and what you actually need running before recommending a size.
SIZING AND WRITTEN QUOTE

You get the unit size, the transfer equipment and the electrical work priced in writing, with essential-circuits and whole-house options separated.
INSTALLATION AND TRANSFER WIRING

Pad, conduit, transfer switch and panel work, coordinated with the gas connection so everything lands in the right order.
TESTING AND INSPECTION

We run a live transfer test, confirm the changeover works under load, and meet the township inspector before closing the permit.

Generator Questions, Answered
Do I need a transfer switch for a generator?
Yes, always. A transfer switch or a panel interlock isolates your house from the grid before the generator picks up load. Without one you can backfeed the utility line and electrocute a line worker. There is no safe shortcut here.
What size generator do I need?
It depends on whether you want the whole house or a set of essential circuits. Well pump, sump pump, furnace, refrigerator and lighting is a much smaller unit than central air and an electric range. We run the load calculation before quoting a size.
Can I just plug a generator into a dryer outlet?
No. That is a suicide cord and it is both illegal and lethal. The correct answer is an exterior inlet, a rated cable and a mechanical interlock at the panel, which is an affordable job.
Do generator installations need a permit?
Yes. Most need an electrical permit and a gas or plumbing permit, and some townships also want a zoning review on the pad location. We handle the electrical filing and coordinate the rest.
Automatic standby or a portable with an inlet?
Automatic standby starts itself and needs no one home; it costs considerably more. A portable with an inlet and interlock is far cheaper but someone has to be there to start it and run the cable. Both are safe when wired correctly.
How long does the installation take?
The electrical work is usually one to two days once the unit and permits are in hand. Coordinating gas connection and the township inspection is what typically stretches the calendar.
